1. The unbelievers responsibility
Romans 10:14a “But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him?”
(‘believe’ - complete trust and reliance in; to have faith in)
Romans 6:23 NIV “…the wage of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
God has divine sovereignty, yet there is still human responsibility.
2. God’s responsibility
Romans 10:14b “And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him?” (‘heard’ - receive news; to understand)
God’s responsible for…
-Getting people to a place where they understand the gospel.
-Arranging meetings for people who have been changed by the gospel with people who need to hear
the gospel.
3. The Christian’s responsibility
Romans 10:14c “And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them? "
We’re responsible for sharing the gospel. But we are not responsible for how people choose.
Romans 10:16 “But not everyone welcomes the Good News…’
3 responsibilities for salvation to happen
-Us sharing the good news with others
-God arranging for unbelievers to hear & understand the gospel.
-The unbeliever choosing to believe in Jesus
Matthew 4:18 NIV “18As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19‘Come, follow Me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’”
Jesus purposely chose ordinary people to work in the family business.
John MacArthur - “God skipped all the wise of the day! The great scholars were in Egypt; the great library was in Alexandria; the great philosophers were in Athens; the powerful were in Rome. He passed over Herodotus the historian and Socrates the great thinker and Julius Caesar. He chose men so ordinary it was comical. No Rabbis, no teachers, no religious experts.”
1Corinthians 1:26-28 NIV “26Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things…to nullify the things that are.”
