Title: Suffering for God’s Glory

What does it mean to ‘suffer for God’s glory’?

The trials, hardships, or pain we endure becomes the stage on which God’s character, God’s power, and God’s purposes are displayed.

Philippians 3:10 NIV “I want to know Christ - yes, to know the power of His resurrection and participation in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death…”

“If we want to live in the power of Jesus’ resurrection, we must first pass through the crucifixion.”

1Peter 4:13 NIV “But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when His glory is revealed.”

John 9:1-3 NLT “As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. ‘2Rabbi,’ His disciples asked Him, ‘why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins’ ‘3It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,’ Jesus answered. ‘This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.

Daniel 6:1-22,25-26 NLT

1Peter 3:16 NLT “…if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.”

A ‘righteous rebel’…

(1) Is first of all, righteous.

His rebellion wasn’t defiance, but an overflow of a long life of righteous living

  (2) Rebels against anything that interferes with their relationship with God.

Carnal rebellion is steeped in pride, selfishness, or lawlessness…Daniel’s “rebellion” was be rooted in obedience to God, not man.

Act 5:29 NLT “But Peter and the apostles replied, ‘We must obey God rather than any human authority.’”

(3) Doesn’t let fear keep them from standing for the Lord.

Joshua 1:9 NIV “Be strong and courageous … for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Job 13:15 NKJV “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.”

(4) Is respectful in their resistance

Romans 12:18 NIV “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

(5) Points others to the Lord…not themselves.

Matthew 5:16 NIV “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
