1-19-2026 | Holiness Begins With the Heart

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” - (Proverbs 4:23)

“People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” - (1 Samuel 16:7).

We live in a world that trains us to manage appearances…. Look good…. Sound right…. Do the acceptable thing….  Even in our walk with God…

It can be tempting to treat holiness like a checklist… say the right words... avoid the wrong places... keep the image clean….

But God has never been impressed by polished surfaces…. He goes straight for the source.

“Holiness begins with the heart because the heart is the headquarters of our decisions… desires.. motives.. and worship.”

  • If the heart is surrendered… the life will eventually align….
  • If the heart is divided… the life may still look “fine,” … but it won’t be free.

Jesus exposed this clearly when He confronted the religious leaders…. They were disciplined… detailed… and outwardly spotless… yet inwardly…. cold… proud… and heavy with hidden sin…. He said their problem wasn’t a lack of rules…. Their problem was an unchanged heart….

“Outward behavior can be managed for a season… but only an inward transformation can produce lasting holiness.”

“Holiness is not God demanding perfection from you… it’s God claiming the deepest place in you…. It’s when your private thoughts… secret habits… quiet grudges…. and hidden fears come under His loving rule…. It’s when what you want starts changing…. not just what you do.”

That’s why real holiness is less about “trying harder”… and more about “surrendering deeper.”….

“God doesn’t merely trim bad fruit off the branches… He heals the root…. And when the heart is healed… holiness stops feeling like a performance and starts becoming a life.”

So today… don’t start by asking… “What do I need to stop doing?” … Start by asking… “Lord, what has my heart been loving more than You?”…. Because the purest obedience flows from the truest affection…. When Jesus is treasured in the heart… holiness becomes a response… not a strain.
