1-20-2026 | Holiness Is Empowered by the Holy Spirit
“Walk by the Spirit... and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh...” - (Galatians 5:16)
“Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling... for it is God who works in you.” - (Philippians 2:12–13)
Holiness can feel intimidating because we often picture it as flawless behavior - never slipping... never struggling... always saying and doing the right thing.... And when we try to reach that standard with sheer willpower... we either become exhausted or proud… and sometimes both.... The truth is... holiness was never meant to be powered by human strength.... Holiness is the fruit of a Spirit-filled life....
God does call us to be holy... but He never calls us to do it alone....
The Holy Spirit is not just a comforter in hard times… He is the empowering presence of God living within us to transform our desires... renew our minds... and reshape our habits....
“Holiness isn’t you trying harder... it’s you surrendering deeper.”
Think of it this way…. you can polish an apple to make it shine... but only life in the root can produce fruit.... In the same way... outward rule-keeping may clean up appearances for a while... but the Spirit changes you from the inside out.... He convicts... yes... but He also supplies strength.... He doesn’t just point out what’s wrong... He produces what’s right....
The Holy Spirit empowers holiness by….
- Changing your appetite… what once satisfied you begins to feel empty... and what once felt “boring” (prayer... worship... Scripture) becomes nourishment....
- Giving you power to say no… not just resisting sin... but resisting it with a new affection for Jesus....
- Growing the fruit of Christlike character… love... joy... peace... patience—these aren’t trophies you earn... they’re fruit He grows - (Galatians 5:22–23)....
- Leading you step by step… holiness isn’t an overnight leap... it’s daily walking.... sometimes slowly... but steadily... with the Spirit....
If you’ve been discouraged by recurring weakness... don’t interpret that as God being done with you.... It may be God inviting you to stop striving in the flesh and start leaning into the Spirit.... The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you.... That means holiness isn’t just a command…. it’s a promise with power attached.
