(Matthew 4:4)
When Jesus was hungry and pressured to prove Himself... He didn’t reach first for bread… He reached for the Father’s word.... “Man shall not live on bread alone... but on every word that comes from the mouth of God...” That means my deepest need isn’t merely relief... results... or something that fills the moment.... My soul was made to be sustained by what God says… His truth... His promises... His guidance... His presence....
Today... I’m invited to notice what I’ve been trying to live on... approval... productivity... comfort... control... distractions.... None of it can nourish me the way God’s voice can.... His Word steadies me when life is uncertain... strengthens me when I’m weak... and reminds me who I am when I forget.... Real life doesn’t come from getting more…. it comes from staying close to the One who speaks.
Prayer:
Father... I confess that I often run to “bread” first… quick fixes... habits... and comforts… while my spirit stays hungry.... Teach me to live on what You say.... Give me a deeper appetite for Your Word than for anything else.... When I’m tempted... tired... or afraid... help me remember that You are my true sustenance.... Speak to me today through Scripture... and give me grace to obey what You show me.... Let Your Word shape my thoughts... strengthen my faith... and satisfy my heart.
In Jesus’ name... Amen.
