2-16-2026 | Prayer and Fasting Build Intimacy
“But when you fast... your Father who sees in secret will reward you...” - (Matthew 6:16-18)“Draw near to God... and He will draw near to you...” - (James 4:8)
Intimacy with God isn’t built on intensity… it’s built on nearness....
Prayer is how we turn our hearts toward Him... and fasting is one way we quiet the noise that competes for our affection.... Together... prayer and fasting create space.... Not because God is far away... but because our hearts can be crowded.
Fasting doesn’t force God’s hand.... It doesn’t earn love... favor... or attention.... God already loves you fully.... Fasting is about sharpening your awareness of His presence.... It’s a way of saying... “Lord... You matter more than my appetites... my comfort... and my routines.”
“When you deny your flesh something it wants... you’re training your soul to want God more.”
Prayer and fasting also reveal what’s been living beneath the surface....
When the usual comforts are removed... impatience... anxiety... control... and fear can rise up.... But that’s not failure… that’s an invitation.... God isn’t exposing those things to shame you.... He’s uncovering them to heal you.... In that place... intimacy deepens because you’re not just bringing polished words… you’re bringing your real self.
Think of it like this... fasting makes you hungry... and hunger makes you aware....
Each time the craving hits... it becomes a reminder... I need God more than I need this.... And instead of rushing to satisfy the urge... you turn it into a moment of connection... “Jesus... fill me.... Speak to me.... Strengthen me.”
Over time.. those moments stack up... and what started as discipline becomes closeness…. If you’ve been longing to “feel” God again... don’t chase feelings… chase fellowship.”
“Prayer and fasting don’t just change your circumstances... they change your capacity.... They tune your heart to God’s voice... and remind your spirit where life truly comes from.”
