2-3-2026 | Love Proves Our Discipleship

Published February 3, 2026

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples... if you love one another...” - John 13:35

Jesus didn’t say the world would recognize His followers by how much we know... how gifted we are... or how loudly we speak.

He said they would know by love....

Not the kind of love that’s easy when people are kind... familiar... or “like us” - but love that looks like Jesus >>> steady... sacrificial... and honest....

“Love is the badge of discipleship because it’s the closest visible proof that Christ is alive in us.”

Anyone can learn Christian language.... Anyone can attend church.... Anyone can post a verse.... But when the Holy Spirit reshapes our hearts... it shows up in how we treat people… especially the difficult ones.... Love becomes the evidence.

“It’s possible to do “spiritual” things while staying guarded... proud... offended... or cold.”

That’s why Jesus tied discipleship to relationships....  But love forces our faith out of theory and into practice....

  • Love forgives when the flesh wants revenge....
  • Love listens when we want to win....
  • Love gives when it costs us....
  • Love tells the truth with gentleness....
  • Love serves quietly....
  • Love stays when convenience says “leave”.

And love isn’t just sentiment....

Scripture says real love has hands and feet… “Let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth” - (1 John 3:18).

“The world isn’t starving for more religious noise…. it’s looking for a living demonstration of Jesus.”

Here’s the hard part… we can’t manufacture this love.... We receive it first.... We love because He loved us.... When we remember how patient Jesus has been with us... how He pursued us... how He forgave us... it becomes harder to withhold love from others.... Discipleship isn’t proving we’re better… it’s showing we belong to the One who is.
