“Love is patient... love is kind... it keeps no record of wrongs....” - (1 Corinthians 13...4-5)
There’s a version of “love” that’s mostly a feeling-warm when things are easy... distant when things get hard.... But the love God describes is sturdier than emotion.... It has a backbone.... It shows up when it would be simpler to leave... lash out... or keep score....
Love is patient....
Patience isn’t pretending things don’t hurt.... Patience is choosing to respond slowly when your flesh wants to respond fast.... It’s the strength to pause before you speak... to pray before you react... to wait for God to work in someone else the way He’s working in you.... Patience says... “I won’t rush you... pressure you... or punish you with my mood.... I’ll walk with you....”
Love is kind....
Kindness is love in action.... It’s not weakness... it’s controlled power.... Kindness answers gently when you could easily be harsh.... It assumes the best when you could suspect the worst.... It offers help... encouragement... and dignity.... Kindness says... “Even if you don’t deserve softness right now... I’m choosing it because God has been soft with me....”
Love forgives....
Forgiveness doesn’t mean what happened was okay.... It means you refuse to become chained to what happened.... Love “keeps no record of wrongs”…. not because the wrong wasn’t real... but because Jesus didn’t keep a record against you.... Forgiveness is releasing your right to revenge and placing justice in God’s hands.... It’s saying... “I won’t carry this like a weapon.... I’m letting God heal me....”
Here’s the truth... you can’t produce this kind of love by willpower alone.... This is God’s love flowing through you....
When you stay close to Jesus... patience grows.... Kindness becomes your instinct.... Forgiveness becomes possible... even when it’s painful.... And slowly... love stops being something you feel and becomes someone you follow.
