2-6-2026 | Love Requires Sacrifice

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” - (John 15:13)
“Walk in love... as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us” - (Ephesians 5:2)
It’s easy to say… “I love you” when it costs us nothing... when the other person is pleasant... when we’re in the mood... when life is smooth.
But real love shows up most clearly when it requires something from us....
Love isn’t just a feeling... it’s a decision to give... to yield... to carry... to serve....
Sacrifice is the proof that love is more than words... Jesus didn’t merely tell us we were loved… He demonstrated it.... He loved with hands that healed... feet that walked toward suffering... and a heart that stayed open even when people misunderstood... betrayed... and abandoned Him....
“The cross is the loudest statement God has ever made about love…. love will pay a price to rescue what matters... And that’s where this devotion turns from something inspiring to something personal.”
Most of the sacrifices you’re asked to make won’t look dramatic.... They’ll look ordinary…
• Biting your tongue instead of winning the argument
• Choosing forgiveness when you’d rather keep the score
• Getting up to serve when you want to be served
• Giving time... attention... and presence when it’s easier to scroll away
• Staying faithful in prayer when you feel nothing
• Loving someone who can’t repay you
Sacrifice doesn’t mean being a doormat or enabling sin.... Jesus loved perfectly and told the truth.... Sacrificial love is not “letting people hurt you forever”.... It’s laying down self-centeredness... pride... revenge... and comfort… when obedience and compassion call you higher.
What do I protect most…. my comfort... or my calling to love?
Because love requires sacrifice... it will often feel inconvenient....
But what Love gives up… God uses…
When you surrender your “right” to be first... God forms Christ in you.... When you choose costly obedience... Heaven counts it as worship....
“God never asks you to produce sacrificial love from an empty tank.... He supplies what He commands.... The more you receive Christ’s love... the more you’ll have strength to give it.... Sacrificial love becomes possible when you remember you are already deeply loved.”
