3-16-2026 | Humility Begins with Recognizing Our Dependence
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” - (James 4:6)
“Apart from Me you can do nothing’” - (John 15:5)
Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself… it’s seeing yourself truthfully....
And one of the truest things about us is this…. we are dependent....
We were made to receive.... Breath... strength... wisdom... daily provision... forgiveness... peace…. none of it originates in us.... We don’t “power” our own lives... we’re sustained.
Pride hates that idea.... Pride says... “I’ve got this.... I earned this.... I don’t need help”.... It may still pray... but only as a formality....
It may still worship... but only when convenient.... Pride treats God like a consultant instead of a Father.
Humility starts in a different place…. I need You.... Not as a dramatic statement... but as a daily posture.... The humble person doesn’t pretend to be self-sufficient... they bring their limits into the light.... They stop performing competence and start practicing reliance.
And here’s the surprising mercy….
“Dependence is not weakness in God’s kingdom…. it’s the doorway to grace.”
James says God gives grace to the humble.... That means humility isn’t just a virtue to admire... it’s a posture that receives.... When we confess our need... we open our hands.... When we acknowledge our dependence... we stop striving to prove ourselves and start abiding…. staying connected to the One who supplies life.
Humility grows every time we say….
“Lord... I don’t know what to do—lead me”
“Lord... I can’t fix this—help me”
“Lord... I can’t carry this alone—strengthen me”
“Lord... I’m not enough—but You are”
“Dependence doesn’t make you less.... It makes you anchored.... It places your confidence where it belongs…. not in your ability to hold everything together... but in God’s faithfulness to hold you.”
