3-25-2026 | Witnessing Points to Jesus and Flows From Love

“He must become greater... I must become less....” - (John 3:30)

“For Christ’s love compels us...” - (2 Corinthians 5:14)

There’s a kind of witnessing that feels like pressure... like you’re carrying the whole outcome on your shoulders.... But the Bible paints a different picture...witnessing isn’t about making much of ourselves...it’s about making much of Jesus.... And it isn’t powered by anxiety or argument...it’s powered by love....

John the Baptist gives us the posture of true witness... “He must become greater... I must become less....” (John 3:30)

John was wildly influential... but he didn’t cling to attention.... He didn’t treat people as his “followers.”….  He treated his influence like a signpost.... A sign doesn’t exist to be admired... it exists to point to the destination.

John’s joy was that people would move past him and arrive at Christ.

That’s the heart of healthy witnessing... we decrease so Jesus can be clearly seen.... Our goal isn’t to win a conversation... prove we’re right... or be viewed as impressive.... Our goal is to help someone see the beauty... power... and mercy of Jesus.

But how do we do that without shrinking into silence or becoming harsh?... Paul answers that... “For Christ’s love compels us...” - (2 Corinthians 5:14).

The word “compels” is strong... it means…

Love moves you....

Love pushes you out of fear....

Love interrupts your comfort....

Love makes you speak...not to perform...but because you care too much to stay quiet....

Here’s the difference love makes....

Fear-driven witnessing says... “I have to say something so I don’t fail.”

Love-driven witnessing says... “I have to say something because Jesus is too good…. and you matter too much.”

When Christ’s love compels us... witnessing stops being a sales pitch and becomes an overflow.... It becomes service.... Listening.... Prayer.... Patience.... Courage.... Honesty.... A life that looks like Jesus…. and words that match that life.

And this is where the two verses meet.... John 3:30 keeps our witness centered on Jesus.... 2 Corinthians 5:14 keeps our witness fueled by Jesus.

“When He becomes greater... we become more free.... When His love compels us... we become braver.... The result is a witness that doesn’t spotlight our ego or our effort…. it spotlights our Savior... When love is the source...Jesus will be the focus.Jesus... make Yourself greater in my life and in my witness.... Help me to become less…. less anxious... less prideful... less concerned with how I look.... Let Your love compel me to speak with humility and courage.... Teach me to point people to You in the way I listen... serve... respond... and share.”
