3-30-2026 | Invitation Flows from Love
“Taste and see that the LORD is good... blessed is the one who takes refuge in him...” -Psalm 34:8
“’Come...’ he replied... ‘and you will see’…. So they went and saw where he was staying... and they spent that day with him...” - John 1:39
There’s something disarming about an invitation that isn’t trying to impress you... No résumé... No perfect wording... No pressure to perform... Just… “Come… Taste and See”…
Psalm 34:8 doesn’t say... “Study and see...” or “Master and see...” It says “Taste and see...”... Tasting is personal... It’s experiential... It’s simple enough for a child and deep enough for a scholar... It’s not about expertise…. it’s about nearness...
David is inviting us into a kind of faith that begins with contact…. try the goodness of God for yourself.
“Refuge comes after the taste... Blessing comes after the step... The invitation is love reaching out before we feel ready.”
John 1:39 shows Jesus doing the same thing...
Two men ask him where he’s staying... and Jesus doesn’t give them a lecture or a list of requirements... He gives them an open door… “Come...and you will see”
And then something holy happens…. they stayed with Him.
Not a quick moment... not a drive-by encounter... but shared time...
Jesus’ love doesn’t test them first... His love hosts them first.
This is the heart of the gospel-shaped invitation…. love makes room...
Love doesn’t wait until you “know enough” to belong... Love doesn’t demand a polished testimony before you can speak... Love doesn’t require you to be the expert…. it only asks you to be honest.
That means you can invite others the way you were invited.
“Come sit with me...”
“Come to church with me...”
“Come read this verse with me...”
“Come and see what God is doing in my life...”
The most powerful invitations often sound like ordinary friendship... because love is usually expressed in everyday language... The goal isn’t to win an argument…. it’s to make a path for someone to encounter Jesus.
“The seeing often comes after the coming.”
