6-2-2026 | God’s Love Does Not Nullify His Holiness
“But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy.’” - 1 Peter 1:15–16
Many people today emphasize God’s love.. and rightly so.... His love is unimaginable.. unconditional.. and unending.... It draws us.. comforts us.. and gives us hope....
Yet.. in focusing solely on His love.. we can sometimes forget another essential truth about His character...
God is Holy.
God’s holiness is not an attribute that competes with His love.. it defines it.... His love is holy love.... It is pure… righteous… and just....
God’s holiness means He cannot tolerate sin... His love means He made a way for sinners to be reconciled to Him... through the cross of Jesus Christ.
At Calvary… love and holiness met perfectly.... The holiness of God demanded that sin be punished... and the love of God provided the substitute... His Son.
“The cross doesn’t show God turning a blind eye to sin... it shows Him dealing with sin fully... while extending mercy completely.”
When we understand that God’s love does not cancel His holiness… it changes how we live.
"Grace does not give us license to sin... it gives us power to pursue holiness."
God’s love doesn’t lower His standards... it enables us to meet them through His Spirit....
Remember.... the same God who says… “I have loved you with an everlasting love,” (Jeremiah 31:3)… also says.. “Be holy, for I am holy.”....To walk in His love is to walk in holiness.... The two are inseparable.
So… here are the questions we must ask...
Have you ever treated God’s grace as permission rather than empowerment?
How does understanding God’s holiness deepen your appreciation of His love?
What is one area in your life where His love is calling you to greater holiness?
