7-1-2026 | A River… Not a Reservoir
“Whoever believes in me… out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38)
“We love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)
“Freely you have received; freely give.” (Matthew 10:8)
God’s love was never meant to be stored like savings or contained like water in a bucket…. It’s meant to move… like a river that refreshes everything it touches…. When the Lord pours His love into you… He’s not just comforting you… He’s forming you into a carrier of His presence.
Sometimes we treat God’s love like it has an endpoint…. Me.
“I needed peace… so God gave it.”
“I was lonely… and God met me.”
“I was ashamed… and God forgave me.”
All of that is true… and beautiful…. But God’s love doesn’t stop at healing you… it expands through you…. The mercy that lifted you is meant to lift someone else…. The patience God shows you is meant to become patience you offer…. The kindness you didn’t earn is meant to become kindness you extend.
Here’s the honest tension and truth…
“It’s possible to be deeply loved and still live closed-fisted… protecting ourselves, staying guarded, keeping our compassion “reasonable.”…. But love isn’t fully received until it’s also released…. Not because you “pay God back,”… but because love.. by nature… moves outward.
If you’ve ever felt dry, stale, or spiritually stuck… it may not be because God stopped pouring…. It may be because you’ve become a reservoir… taking in… but rarely letting out…. Rivers stay fresh because they flow.
Here’s a great way to picture it…
Reservoir….. collects, protects, hoards, fears depletion.
River…. receives, moves, gives, trusts the Source.
“God isn’t asking you to manufacture love…. He’s inviting you to abide… and let what you receive become what you release…. You are not the source…. You are the pathway.”
Remember….
“God’s love came to you on purpose… so it can move through you on purpose.”
