7-27-2026 | Devoted to Christ When Comforts Are Gone

“Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him.” (Job 13:15) 

“For I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.” (Philippians 4:11) 

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9) 

When the comforts are gone… it can feel like God has gone quiet….  

The familiar supports disappear… money is tight… the relationship is strained... the diagnosis lands... the door closes... the sleep won’t come… and suddenly faith feels heavier than it used to….  

But this is often where devotion becomes real… not love fueled by ease or comfort… but love anchored in Christ Himself. 

Comfort is a kind gift… but it’s a fragile foundation…. When life is smooth… it’s easy to confuse God’s blessings with God Himself….  

We start to lean on the feeling of peace more than the Prince of Peace.  

We cling to stability more than the Savior. 

“Sometimes the loss of comfort is not punishment… it’s a proving ground….  It reveals what has been holding our hearts… the gifts.. or the Giver.” 

Devotion to Christ means that… even if the “extras” vanish… Jesus remains enough. 

Not because pain doesn’t hurt… but because Christ doesn’t change. 

And here’s the surprise of the valley…   

“When comforts are gone… you may discover you’re not abandoned… you’re being held…. The same Christ who calms storms also walks on the waves toward you…. He doesn’t ask you to pretend you’re fine…. He asks you to trust that He’s faithful.” 

Here’s something to think about… 

When the lights go out in a room…  you don’t argue with the darkness… you reach for what you know is there…. Devotion in discomfort is reaching for Jesus based on truth… not temperature….  

“You don’t need to “feel” strong to cling strongly. You just need to cling.” 

“Christ is not only present in comfort. He is especially near in the crisis.”
