7-28-2026 | Discernment in the Age of Deception
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God…” - 1 John 4:1
We live in a time where deception is no longer rare… it is constant….
Voices compete for our attention every day…. Social media... entertainment... culture... false teaching... fear-driven opinions... and even our own emotions can all speak loudly….
“Not everything that sounds good is God…. Not everything popular is true… Not everything spiritual is holy.”
That is why discernment is so necessary….
Discernment is more than intelligence…. It is more than suspicion…. Discernment is a spiritual ability.. sharpened by the Word of God and guided by the Holy Spirit.. that helps us recognize what is true and reject what is false…. In an age of deception… discernment is protection.
The enemy has always worked through distortion….
In the garden… Satan did not begin with an obvious rebellion… he began with a subtle question… “Did God really say…?”
Deception often comes wrapped in partial truth... attractive language... and convincing emotion…. It appeals to the flesh... flatters human pride... and tries to make compromise seem harmless….
That is why believers must know God’s voice for themselves.
Jesus said… “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27).
“The more closely we walk with Him… the more clearly we recognize when something is off.”
When you spend time in Scripture... prayer... and obedience... your spiritual senses become trained…. You begin to notice when something does not align with God’s character... God’s Word... or God’s peace.
“Discernment is not always comfortable… but it is always necessary.”
God never intended for His people to live confused….
He gives wisdom generously to those who ask.
He gives the Holy Spirit to lead us into truth.
He gives His Word as a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.
In the age of deception…
Do not panic… pray.
Do not follow every voice… test it.
Do not be led by feelings alone… be anchored in truth.
