7-29-2026 | A new perspective on money.

“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” - 2 Corinthians 9:7 

The question is not merely… “Do I still need to tithe?” 

The deeper question is… 

“What has the cross done to my relationship with giving?” 

Under the Old Covenant… Israel was commanded to tithe as part of a covenant system involving temple worship... priestly provision... national festivals... and care for the poor…. The tithe was not a vague spiritual suggestion… it was part of the legal structure of covenant life in Israel…. In that sense… the tithe belonged to a theocratic nation under Mosaic Law. 

But the believer in Christ is not under the Mosaic covenant as a covenant of obligation…. We are not justified by law-keeping... sanctified by percentages... or accepted by God through financial precision…. Christ has fulfilled the Law… and the Christian does not stand before God measured by Levitical taxation… but instead by the righteousness of Jesus. 

So… do you still need to tithe? 

The New Testament never commands the church to live under the tithe as a binding legal requirement…. The apostles… when instructing believers on giving… do not appeal to compulsion… but to grace.  

They speak of generosity... willingness… love... stewardship… and sacrificial participation in God’s work. 

And yet there is one essential fact that we all must address in our hearts and lives…. 

“Grace never produces less righteousness than law aimed at…. It produces more.” 

That is where many believers stumble…. Some reject tithing not because they understand freedom… but because they prefer self-possession….   

But… 

“Christian liberty is never permission for selfishness…. Freedom in Christ is freedom from legalism… not freedom from generosity.” 

“The New Testament vision is actually more radical than tithing… not a minimum to calculate… but a life laid down in worship…. A sacrificial life.” 

The early church was not marked by asking… “What is the least I must give?”… but by hearts transformed enough to ask… “How can I serve the kingdom.. care for others.. and honor God with all I have?”  

For some… ten percent is a wonderful starting point…. For others… grace may lead far beyond it…. The issue is no longer mathematics alone… but mastery…. 

 Tithing… then… may still be a wise discipline… but it is not the measure of your righteousness….  

Jesus is!!! 

“Giving is no longer a tax on your increase… it is a testimony of your trust.”
