8-20-2026 | Handle His Name with Holy Hands
“Holy and awesome is His name.” (Psalm 111:9)
“You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.” (Exodus 20:7)
“Be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16)
There’s a quiet danger that can creep into Christian life… we start believing that if something has God’s name on it… it must automatically be holy.
We slap the word “Christian”or “Jesus” on a song... a brand... a ministry... a relationship... a conference... a business... a social media page... even an opinion… and we assume heaven approves it.
But…
“Attaching God’s name to something doesn’t sanctify it…. God’s name is not decoration…. It’s not marketing…. It’s not a shortcut to credibility…. His name is Holy all by itself… and because it is Holy… it demands reverence from those who carry it.”
The third commandment is often reduced to “don’t cuss” … but it reaches so much further… don’t carry God’s name carelessly…. The word take can also mean “lift” or “bear.” …. In other words…
“Don’t wear His name while living in a way that misrepresents Him.”
That means we must be careful… because people will watch what we attach His name to….
When we put “God told me”… on a desire that is really selfish… we train ourselves to confuse His voice with our impulses.
When we call something “anointed” but it’s full of pride... manipulation... or compromise… we end up treating the holy like common.
When we defend harshness… gossip... dishonesty... or division under the banner of “truth,” we may win an argument but lose the fear of the Lord.
Holiness isn’t a label… it’s a nature.
