8-3-2026 | Don’t Forget the God Who Rescued You
“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress.” - Psalm 107:6
There is something deeply human about crying out to God when life falls apart…. When the pressure rises... when the bills pile up... when the diagnosis comes… when the relationship breaks... when fear closes in… we pray harder… seek faster... and call on God with urgency…. In those desperate moments… we know exactly where to turn.
And God… in His mercy... answers.
He rescues... He provides… He heals… He opens doors... He comforts... He makes a way where there seemed to be none…
But too often… once the storm passes… so does our desperation for Him…. The prayer life that was once consistent and honest grows quiet…. The worship that was once sincere becomes occasional…. The dependence we had in the valley fades in the comfort of the blessing….
We wanted God’s hand… but not always His heart…. We wanted deliverance… but not always devotion.
Psalm 107 shows this pattern clearly…. Again and again… the people cry out in trouble… and again and again… God delivers them.
But the repeated call of the chapter is this…
“Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind.”
God never intended for rescue to be the end of the story…. Rescue was supposed to lead to remembrance… gratitude... and deeper relationship…
“Sometimes we treat God like an emergency exit instead of a daily dwelling place.”
We run to Him when we need to be bailed out… but once things get better… we return to living as if we got there on our own….
“That is not just forgetfulness… it reveals a heart that loves relief more than it loves the Redeemer.”
But the Lord is not asking us to stay close to Him because He is insecure…. He asks us to remain because He knows that the greatest blessing is not the bailout… it is Him….
The miracle is wonderful… but the presence of God is better….
The breakthrough matters… but intimacy with Him matters more…
“A mature faith does not only seek God in crisis…. It seeks Him in calm… It thanks Him after the answer comes... It stays on its knees after the burden lifts... It remembers that the same God who met us in the emergency room… in the financial hardship… in the heartbreak… is still worthy of our love when life feels stable again.”
