“Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be… waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God… according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” (2 Peter 3:11–13)

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth… but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” (Matthew 6:19–20)

We live like this world is permanent because the world is loud…. What we can see and touch puts constant demands on us… deadlines… bills… bodies… buildings… brands… opinions… comfort… control…. These things aren’t always evil… many are gifts… but they feel urgent…. They flash “now.” And if we’re not careful... “now” becomes “forever” in our priorities… But Scripture keeps pulling the curtain back… everything we currently know in its fallen form is passing…. What seems solid is temporary…. What seems small… faith… obedience… love… turns out to be the only thing that survives the fire.

So… if that is true… and IT IS … Here’s the question….

Since everything here will be shaken… why do we treat it like it’s unshakable? ... If Christ is making all things new…, why do we keep pouring our best energy into what won’t last?

A simple answer… because the temporary trains us to forget eternity.

The temporary rewards quickly…  applause… accumulation… relief… distraction…. Eternal things often reward slowly… character formed in secret… love that costs something… prayers that feel unanswered… obedience without recognition… generosity that can’t be reposted… forgiveness that doesn’t “win.”….

“Eternal work can feel like planting seeds in dirt while the world is offering you fruit in a basket.”

But the Kingdom is not a basket… It’s a seed.

And Jesus didn’t just tell us the world is passing… He proved what lasts by how He lived…. He invested in what survives death… communion with the Father… obedience… compassion… truth… discipleship… the cross….

He spent Himself on things that looked like loss… and then He rose to show they were actually the only real gain.

So…. Why do we neglect what lasts forever…

1. We confuse survival with significance….

2. We chase visible results….

3. We don’t realize we’re always worshiping something….

“The issue isn’t whether we touch temporary things…. The issue is whether temporary things are touching the throne.”

Because one day… everything will be made new in and through Him…. And when the smoke clears… love will still be standing…. Truth will still be standing…. Christ will still be standing…. And everyone you’ve ever met will still exist somewhere forever.

“Small obedience becomes eternal weight.”

Remember….

“You don’t have to wait for the new world to live new…. Live today as if Jesus is telling the truth about what lasts… because He is.”
