1-5-26 | The Mark of a True Disciple

“Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” - John 13:35….
There are many ways people identify themselves... by job title… achievements… family roles… or even the church they attend…. But Jesus gives us a very different marker of identity.... Love.
In John 13:35... Jesus speaks to His disciples shortly before His crucifixion…. This wasn’t a casual conversation or comment... It was a command given in one of His most intimate and urgent moments... Jesus didn’t say the world would recognize His followers by their sermons.. church attendance.. or theological accuracy... though those things certainly have value... He said… “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
This kind of love isn't surface-level affection or occasional kindness…. It's the same kind of love Jesus showed... selfless.. sacrificial.. and steadfast…. It's love that serves even when it’s not convenient... forgives even when it hurts... and reaches out even when it’s been rejected.
When we love one another in this way... we show the world a different kind of community and a different kind of relationship... one not built on performance.. appearance.. or personal gain... but on the transforming love of Christ.
In our world which is full of division.. anger.. and loneliness... true love between believers shines like a beacon pointing people to Jesus.
Ask yourself today…
• Is my love for others evidence of my discipleship?
• Do I love through action... not just words?
• Do I love across differences.. beyond offenses.. and despite inconvenience?
“Let's commit to being known... not just for what we say we believe... but for how we show it in how well we love.”
